The government announced in the Queen’s Speech on the 18th May, that it intends to bring forward proposals regarding a British Bill of Rights. It would replace, but be based upon the European Convention on Human Rights, whilst also reflecting, common law in the UK. The intention appears to be to protect fundamental human rights, whilst better protecting against misuse of existing human rights laws and aim to restore common sense to the interpretation of human rights.

The Government have advised that they will consult extensively before putting forward their proposals, which can be found at http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7193
